Tiger, tiger

The hunter’s trophies

hung on walls

floored in halls

glorified guardians

of a time gone by,

an age before

when tails and silk dresses danced and chattered.

Dust havens now

locking in the ghosts

of animals and men long dead,

long silenced,

mothballed

and museumed into heritage.
